Carmen Lawson - Development Manager
Carmen joined the LDM team as a development manager in 2021. Carmen is a member of the Nisga’a Nation and the Heiltsuk Community. She brings a wealth of experience to her position at Lu’ma Development Management that includes Federal Government experience, Indigenous Nonprofit experience and Indigenous Rural Community Development. Some of her most notable experience includes her time as a HR Assistant to the Aboriginal portfolio and database maintenance for the Public Service Commission, followed by an executive support role at the Pacific Federal Council, an internal regional interdepartmental office that leverages collaboration of knowledge and resources. During her employment with the Federal Government, she sat on an employment equity team that eventually was an initial contributor to the Pacific Aboriginal Network, a nationwide interdepartmental support network for career development and role mentoring.
Carmen has also been the owner/operator of her successful small business of picture framing combined with an Indigenous art gallery. She holds a Fashion Design Certificate, Business Management Diploma and a bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Most recently Carmen moved to her home community to fulfill the role of Executive Director, she later transferred to the position of Economic Development Officer as a shift in priority and passion for both her and the Nation. These positions brought her the valuable experience of residing in a remote community, working with leadership, negotiating with the government and understanding the complexities of project-based management and communications.
However, as a daughter to one, sister to five, mother to two, grandma to three - her heartstrings called her back to the Lower Mainland to be closer to family; and she is grateful to be able to continue to work her passion of creating a better standard of living for all Indigenous peoples.
